Without God

A digital experience to promote a film.

‘Without God’ is a ‘Clue’-like who-done-it murder-mystery film about the sudden passing of a powerful kingpin and his inner-circle’s fight to claim the throne.

Creating a website to promote the film was also an opportunity to produce an interactive digital experience that created interest in the film while also expanding the story and characters beyond it to another medium - creating a complementary prologue/prequel piece that stood alongside the film.

Museums of other worlds

The goal of the digital experience became to share the background of each film character in an interactive and visually evocative way, creating a kind of museum of the film’s larger-than-life world, to draw viewers in and attract interest.

The experience is set up as an evidence-board-come-mood-board, as if the viewer is part of a detective team drawing conclusions and putting the pieces together themselves.

A key inspiration was online wikis and art books - the explorable museums of fictional worlds that invite viewers to imagine living and breathing worlds beyond the one’s we experience.

Ordered chaos

Every element across the site is aligned to an adaptive 24 column grid, giving the illusion of a chaotic sprawl and the messiness of parts and pieces while quietly maintaining intentional structure and clarity in layouts.

The key art for each character using directed photography of the film’s actors was created with colour and texture reflecting the themes and nature of each character.
